Take the Helm With Career Start
Eligible Queenslanders may be able to access reduced-cost maritime training through Career Start general training or traineeship pathways.
This nationally recognised qualification is available to eligible participants through the Queensland Government Career Start traineeship pathway and supports the training component of the AMSA Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal pathway.
- Handle and operate vessels up to 12 metres.
- Operate inboard and outboard propulsion systems.
- Apply navigation, seamanship, safety and environmental procedures.
- Complete practical fire, survival-at-sea and vessel-handling activities.

Enrolment period:
Up to 12 months*

- Undertake hull, machinery and deck-equipment maintenance tasks.
- Apply firefighting, survival, WHS and environmental procedures.

- Manoeuvre vessels up to 24 metres in near coastal waters.
- Manage a navigational watch and apply maritime regulations.
- Lead seamanship, safety, maintenance and emergency operations.
