Student Support & Wellbeing

Supported to learn. Supported to succeed.

Training should challenge you, but getting help should not be difficult. From learning and technical support to practical guidance, reasonable adjustment and wellbeing pathways, the Paradigm team is here to help you keep moving forward.

Support that responds to the individual.

Every student brings different experience, confidence and learning needs to their training. PTG aims to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, seeking clarification and accessing additional support when they need it.

Ask questions Clarification is part of learning.
Practise safely Skills develop through guided practice.
Speak up early Support works best before barriers grow.

Learning how to learn. Learning how to work with others.

People do not all process information, communicate, respond to instructions or build confidence in exactly the same way.

At the beginning of face-to-face training, our trainers use discussion, observation, questioning and simple group activities to understand the experience, confidence, communication and learning styles within the cohort.

Students are also encouraged to think about how they listen, ask questions, seek clarification and communicate with the people working around them.

No labels. No one-size-fits-all approach.

We do not place students into fixed learning-style categories. Trainers adapt explanation, demonstration, questioning, practice and feedback where appropriate.

01

Understand yourself

Recognise how experience, confidence and communication habits can influence the way you approach unfamiliar tasks.

02

Listen to understand

Ask questions, check understanding, seek clarification and listen to the information another person is communicating.

03

Adapt communication

Trainers model different ways to explain, demonstrate, question and reframe information when something has not clicked.

04

Work effectively with others

Give and receive clear information, support others, manage differences and contribute towards a shared outcome.

From the classroom to the real world

These are workplace skills, not just classroom skills.

Throughout the course, students use the same principles during demonstrations, practical activities, problem-solving exercises and realistic scenarios: listen, communicate, guide, cooperate and adapt when working with other people.

Listen. Learn. Adapt. Communicate. Work together.

Help throughout your training.

Support may look different depending on the course, the issue you are experiencing and what will genuinely help you progress.

Enrolment to completion
01

Online & technical support

Help accessing your learner portal, online theory, course resources and other digital systems used throughout training.

02

One-on-one tutoring

Where appropriate, additional trainer time may be arranged to revisit difficult concepts, calculations, terminology or course content.

03

Language, literacy & numeracy

Support can be considered where reading, writing, calculations or technical terminology are creating a barrier to learning.

04

Digital literacy support

If online platforms, electronic documents or digital learning tools are affecting participation, let us know so suitable support can be considered.

05

Practical preparation

Trainers use explanation, demonstration, practice and feedback so students understand what is expected before demonstrating competency.

06

Enrolment & administration

Our administration team can help explain forms, eligibility documents, schedules, invoices and other course requirements.

Support without lowering the standard.

Support can help you learn and prepare. You must still demonstrate the skills and knowledge required by your course.

Your ability to participate matters.

Physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing can influence training. PTG also recognises that disability, access requirements and personal circumstances may affect participation in different ways.

Study wellbeing

Workload & assessment pressure

Managing work, family, theory, study and practical training can be demanding. Talk with us early if pressure is affecting progress.

Mental, emotional & personal

When life is affecting training

Stress, personal circumstances, caring responsibilities or other pressures can affect concentration, attendance and participation.

Physical wellbeing

Fatigue & physical demands

Some courses involve vessels, outdoor conditions, emergency scenarios or physically active tasks. Tell your trainer if something may affect safe participation.

Safety, respect & inclusion

A learning environment where people feel safe

PTG aims to provide an inclusive and culturally safe environment, including cultural safety for First Nations students. Racism, discrimination, bullying, harassment, abuse and violence are not accepted.

Supporting access and participation.

Students may choose to tell PTG about a disability that affects access to training or assessment. Where appropriate, reasonable adjustments can be considered to support participation on an equal basis.

An adjustment cannot remove or change the skills, knowledge or competency requirements that must be demonstrated.

Depending on the circumstances, examples may include
Alternative resource formats Additional time Assistive technology Accessible arrangements Adjusted presentation Scheduling flexibility
When something is affecting your training

Tell us early.

You do not have to wait until you are falling behind. If something is affecting your ability to participate, learn or complete assessment, speak with your trainer, assessor or the PTG team so appropriate options can be considered.

Talk with Paradigm

Building connection is part of the experience.

Shared breaks and meals give students time to talk, get to know one another, speak informally with trainers and build relationships with the people they are learning alongside.

Connection & conversation

Homemade morning tea

On applicable training days, PTG provides homemade morning tea as an opportunity to step away from training, talk and connect.

A supportive environment

More than just the classroom

Informal conversations help build rapport, make questions easier to ask and help students feel part of the group rather than simply attending a course.

The Paradigm experience

We take the training seriously, but we also care about the experience students have while they are here.

Serious training that is seriously fun.

Sometimes the right support sits outside PTG.

PTG is a training organisation and does not provide professional counselling, medical treatment or crisis intervention. Where specialist support is appropriate, students can access external services directly.
