Course Details

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is a nationally recognised unit of competency that provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

The unit is suitable for people who may be required to provide first aid in a workplace or community setting and covers the recognition, assessment and management of a range of injuries and medical emergencies.

Paradigm Training Group delivers the course through a blended learning model. Participants complete required online learning and knowledge activities before attending a practical face-to-face workshop where first aid skills are developed, practised and assessed.

Practical training is scenario-based and, where appropriate, may be contextualised to reflect the types of incidents, hazards and emergency situations participants may encounter in their workplace or industry. Contextualisation does not alter or remove the competency or assessment requirements of HLTAID011.

Queensland work health and safety requirements require workplaces to provide appropriate first aid equipment, facilities and access to an adequate number of people trained to administer first aid.

The Queensland First aid in the workplace Code of Practice 2021 identifies nationally recognised Provide First Aid training, or training providing equivalent skills, as the minimum first aid training generally appropriate for workplace first aiders.

The Queensland Code of Practice recommends refresher training in CPR annually and renewal of first aid training every three years. Employers, industry bodies or other regulators may impose additional or different currency requirements.

The training package does not specify prerequisite units for HLTAID011.

Before enrolment is confirmed, Paradigm Training Group will consider whether the course, delivery arrangements and available support are suitable for the prospective student.

Reasonable adjustment may be available to support a student's participation or assessment where appropriate. Reasonable adjustment cannot remove an essential competency requirement, compromise assessment validity or safety, or alter mandatory training product requirements.

Students must provide a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) before nationally recognised certification can be issued, unless a lawful exemption applies.

HLTAID011 is offered over an enrolment period of up to three months through a blended combination of online learning, knowledge assessment and face-to-face practical training and assessment.

Required online learning should be completed before attending the practical workshop unless an alternative arrangement has been approved by Paradigm Training Group. Online activities may include:

• Reading learner resources.
• Reviewing instructional material, presentations and videos.
• Completing knowledge and formative activities.
• Contact with trainers and assessors by phone, email or other approved communication methods where assistance is required.

The practical component is delivered through typically half-day face-to-face workshop. Participants undertake demonstrations, practical skill stations and realistic first aid scenarios designed to develop and assess the skills required to respond safely and effectively to emergency situations.

Actual workshop duration may vary according to cohort size, learner needs and the time required for each participant to complete all mandatory practical training and assessment activities.

Workshop dates, commencement times and delivery locations are provided during the enrolment and booking process.

Workplace scenarios may be contextualised to reflect relevant industry hazards and emergency situations while maintaining all nationally prescribed requirements of HLTAID011.

To be assessed as competent in HLTAID011, students must satisfactorily complete the required knowledge and practical assessments and demonstrate all skills specified by the nationally recognised unit.

• Managing an unconscious casualty who is breathing normally.
• Performing at least two minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR, including five cycles of compressions and ventilations, on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
• Following AED prompts and demonstrating use of an AED trainer, including delivery of at least one simulated shock.
• Demonstrating rotation of rescuers with minimal interruption to compressions where required.
• Responding appropriately to regurgitation or vomiting during resuscitation.
• Performing at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR, including five cycles of compressions and ventilations, on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
• Responding to first aid situations involving conditions such as anaphylaxis, asthma, bleeding, choking, envenomation, fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, minor injuries, nosebleed and shock.
• Communicating relevant information to emergency services.
• Completing appropriate verbal and written incident reporting.
• Reviewing the first aid response following an incident.

Students who do not initially demonstrate competency will receive feedback and advice about any further training, practice or evidence required. Further assessment opportunities are managed in accordance with Paradigm Training Group's assessment and reassessment policies.

No workplace placement is required for this unit. Required practical performance is assessed in appropriately simulated first aid scenarios.

Students who are assessed as competent in all requirements of HLTAID011 will receive a nationally recognised:

A verified USI must be available before the Statement of Attainment can be issued, unless an applicable exemption exists.

Students assessed as Not Yet Competent will be advised of the areas requiring further evidence, training or reassessment.

HLTAID011 includes the CPR skills and knowledge associated with HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as part of the broader first aid unit.

Participants who only require CPR training should consider enrolling directly in HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

Applications should be discussed with Paradigm Training Group as early as possible. Any recognition decision must satisfy the current requirements of HLTAID011, including applicable practical performance requirements.

• Half-day scheduled face-to-face practical workshop.
• Use of required first aid training and assessment equipment.
• Trainer and assessor support during the enrolment period.
• Reasonable further training and reassessment in accordance with PTG policy.
• Issue of the Statement of Attainment following successful completion.

Any additional charges or costs applicable to an individual enrolment will be disclosed before the student is required to enrol or make payment.

Where training is arranged for a business or organisation, a written quotation will identify the agreed fees, delivery arrangements and any applicable additional charges before the booking is confirmed.

Refunds, cancellations, withdrawals and transfers are managed in accordance with the Paradigm Training Group Student Handbook , applicable fee and refund policies and the student's enrolment agreement.

Paradigm Training Group provides support according to the student's individual needs and the requirements of the course.
