Supported to learn. Supported to succeed.
Training can be challenging, but getting help should not be. From technical assistance and one-on-one tutoring to practical guidance, reasonable adjustment and wellbeing support, the Paradigm team is here to help you keep moving forward.
Support that responds to the individual.
Every student brings different experience, confidence and learning needs to their training. PTG aims to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, seeking clarification and accessing additional support when they need it.
Learning support
Additional explanation, tutoring, clarification and guided practice where appropriate.
Technical support
Help accessing online learning, resources and the systems used throughout your course.
Practical support
Clear demonstrations, practice, feedback and guidance as practical skills develop.
Wellbeing support
Information and support pathways when wellbeing or personal circumstances are affecting training.
Help throughout your training journey.
Support may look different depending on the course, the issue you are experiencing and what will genuinely help you progress.
Online & technical support
If you are having trouble accessing your learner portal, online theory, course resources or another digital system, contact us. We can help you work out what is happening and what you need to do next.
One-on-one tutoring
Where appropriate, additional time with a trainer may be arranged to revisit difficult concepts, calculations, terminology or course content and provide further guided practice.
Language, literacy & numeracy
Reading, writing, calculations and technical terminology are part of many vocational courses. If one of these areas is creating a barrier, talk to us so appropriate learning support can be considered.
Digital literacy support
If using online platforms, electronic documents or digital learning tools is affecting your ability to participate, let us know so we can determine what assistance may be suitable.
Practical preparation
Practical competence develops through explanation, demonstration, practice and feedback. Trainers provide guidance so you understand what is expected before you are required to demonstrate competency.
Enrolment & administration
Forms, eligibility documents, online requirements, schedules, invoices and course administration can sometimes become confusing. Our administration team can help explain what is required and what happens next.
Sometimes you just need someone to go through it with you.
Different people understand information in different ways.
If something has not quite clicked, it may simply need to be explained another way, demonstrated again or worked through at a different pace.
Depending on the circumstances and training product, additional trainer support may be available to help you strengthen your understanding and prepare for assessment.
Revisit difficult concepts.
Work through calculations.
Clarify technical terminology.
Prepare for practical activities.
Ask questions individually.
Build confidence through practice.
Support can help you learn and prepare. You must still demonstrate the skills and knowledge required by your course.
Wellbeing is part of a positive learning environment.
Physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing can all influence a person's ability to participate in training. PTG recognises that different training products and student cohorts can involve different pressures and support needs.
Workload & assessment pressure
Managing work, family, theory, study and practical training can be demanding. Talk with us early if workload, organisation or assessment pressure is affecting your progress.
When things are becoming difficult
Stress, anxiety or personal circumstances can affect concentration and participation. PTG can discuss the impact on your training and, where appropriate, direct you towards specialist external support.
Fatigue & physical demands
Some courses involve practical activities, outdoor conditions, vessels, emergency-response scenarios or physically active tasks. Tell your trainer if something may affect your ability to participate safely.
Life outside training still matters
Work pressures, caring responsibilities, financial concerns or unexpected personal circumstances can affect training. Let us know when something is becoming a barrier to progress.
A learning environment where people feel safe
Bullying, racism, discrimination, harassment, abuse or violence are not acceptable within the learning environment. Students are encouraged to raise concerns with PTG.
Respecting the people who train with us
PTG aims to foster a safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environment that respects diversity and supports cultural safety, including cultural safety for First Nations students.
Different training brings different considerations.
PTG delivers training across practical, classroom and online environments. The pressures or wellbeing considerations associated with each may be different.
Practical & operational environments
Maritime training can include long practical days, vessels, outdoor conditions, water-based activities, machinery and emergency-response scenarios.
- Fatigue and concentration
- Heat, weather and hydration
- Physical readiness
- Practical assessment pressure
- Safe participation around vessels and equipment
Realistic emergency scenarios
First aid training involves emergency-response activities and casualty scenarios. Some subject matter may also be confronting for individual students.
- Emergency and injury scenarios
- CPR and physical activities
- Potentially confronting content
- Assessment-related pressure
- Opportunities to raise concerns with the trainer
Study & cognitive demands
Theory and online learning can create different challenges, particularly when study is being managed alongside work, family and other responsibilities.
- Time management
- Online study workload
- Digital confidence
- Complex theory or calculations
- Maintaining progress over time
Tell us early.
You do not have to wait until you are falling behind. If something is affecting your ability to participate, learn or complete assessment, talk with PTG so the appropriate options can be considered.
Speak with your trainer, assessor or the PTG administration team.
You do not need to arrive with the solution. Tell us what is affecting your participation or progress.
This may involve learning support, additional guidance, reasonable adjustment or an external referral.
Circumstances and support needs can change. Speak with us again when something changes.
Supporting access and participation.
Students may choose to tell PTG about a disability that affects their access to training or assessment. Where appropriate, reasonable adjustments can be considered to support participation on an equal basis.
An adjustment cannot remove or change the skills, knowledge or competency requirements that must be demonstrated.
Building connection is part of the experience.
We want students to feel comfortable, included and connected throughout their training. Shared breaks and meals create opportunities for students to talk, get to know one another, speak informally with trainers and build relationships with the people they are learning alongside.
For us, providing food is also a simple way of showing students that they are genuinely looked after while they are here.
Homemade morning tea
Morning tea is an opportunity to step away from training, have a conversation and get to know the people you are sharing the course with.
On applicable training days, PTG provides homemade morning tea to encourage conversation, connection between students and trainers, and the kind of relaxed interaction that helps people feel part of the group.
Friday lunch barbecue
After a long and intensive practical week, Friday lunch is a chance to stop, sit down together and recognise what everyone has achieved.
PTG cooks the barbecue and prepares the accompanying food in-house. It creates a relaxed end-of-week meal where students and trainers can unwind, talk and celebrate making it through the week together.
More than just the classroom
The conversations that happen over morning tea, lunch or between activities can be an important part of the student experience.
They help students build rapport with one another and their trainers, ask questions more freely and feel part of the group rather than simply attending a course.
We take the training seriously, but we also care about the experience students have while they are here — the people they meet, the conversations they have and the sense of achievement they leave with.
Sometimes the right support sits outside PTG.
PTG is a training organisation and does not provide professional counselling, medical treatment or crisis intervention. Where specialist support is appropriate, students can access external services directly.
