The MAR40324 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal) is a nationally recognised qualification for people working in the maritime industry and seeking advanced skills in vessel command, navigation and operational management.
The qualification is currently cited in the MAR Maritime Training Package as meeting some of the requirements for certification as a Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal and Chief Mate up to 100 metres Near Coastal under Marine Order 505.
Training develops capability in areas including vessel command, voyage management, passage planning, navigation, stability, cargo, seaworthiness, weather, propulsion, deck machinery, crew management, maintenance planning, firefighting, survival, WHS, first aid and confined-space work.
Once the separate AMSA Certificate of Competency has been issued, a Master less than 45 metres Near Coastal certificate holder may perform the duties and functions currently described by AMSA.

MAR40324 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal) has no formal entry requirements listed on the National Register.
Before confirming enrolment, Paradigm Training Group (PTG) will review your training goals, relevant experience and qualifications, language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills, technology access and any support needs. PTG will then advise whether the course, delivery arrangements and available support are suitable for you.
Students must participate in practical maritime activities, including vessel operations, navigation and passage planning, watchkeeping, vessel stability, cargo operations, machinery and deck operations, emergency response, firefighting, first aid and survival-at-sea activities. Please discuss any condition or support need that may affect safe participation with PTG before practical training begins.
Reasonable adjustments may be available where appropriate, provided they do not remove competency requirements, compromise assessment validity or safety, or override applicable regulatory requirements.
If you intend to obtain an AMSA Master less than 45 metres Near Coastal Certificate of Competency, review AMSA's current eligibility and application requirements before enrolling. This will help you understand the separate prerequisite certification, sea service, medical, first aid, marine radio, final assessment, evidence and application requirements that apply.
Completing MAR40324 does not automatically result in an AMSA Certificate of Competency. You must separately meet AMSA's requirements, including holding the required prior Certificate of Competency, completing qualifying sea service, meeting medical fitness requirements, holding current first aid and the required marine radio certification, and successfully completing AMSA's final assessment before the certificate can be issued.
Further information: Medical fitness, qualifying sea service and myAMSA applications.
You must provide a valid USI before PTG can issue your qualification or statement of attainment, unless a lawful exemption applies.
PTG offers this qualification through a blended delivery model combining online learning, trainer-supported study, face-to-face practical training and competency-based assessment. The enrolment period is up to 24 months, subject to the student's individual training and assessment requirements and any applicable Credit Transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning arrangements.
