Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Fee-For-Service
HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a nationally recognised unit of competency that provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.
The unit applies to people who may be required to provide CPR in a range of workplace and community settings and focuses on recognising a cardiac emergency, assessing a casualty, performing CPR, safely using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), communicating with emergency services and reviewing the emergency response.
Paradigm Training Group delivers HLTAID009 through a blended learning model. Participants complete required online learning and knowledge activities before attending a practical face-to-face workshop where CPR and AED skills are developed, practised and assessed.
Practical sessions are hands-on and scenario-based. Where appropriate, scenarios may be contextualised to reflect the types of environments or emergency situations participants may encounter in their workplace or community setting. Contextualisation does not alter or remove any competency or assessment requirement of HLTAID009.
HLTAID009 is a nationally recognised unit of competency. Successful completion results in a Statement of Attainment. It is not a standalone qualification, occupational licence or guarantee of employment.
HLTAID009 may be appropriate for people who are required by an employer, industry body or workplace procedure to maintain current CPR skills, or for anyone wishing to develop the ability to respond to a cardiac emergency.
Completion of HLTAID009 alone should not be assumed to satisfy the training requirements for a designated workplace first aider. The Queensland First aid in the workplace Code of Practice 2021 states that, as a minimum, workplace first aiders should hold nationally recognised Provide First Aid training or training providing equivalent skills. Additional training may also be required depending on workplace risks.
The Queensland Code of Practice recommends that first aiders undertake CPR refresher training annually to refresh their skills and confirm their competence.
Employers and participants should confirm any specific CPR or first aid requirements that apply to their workplace, industry, licence, professional registration or other regulatory arrangement.
The training package does not specify prerequisite units for HLTAID009.
Before enrolment is confirmed, Paradigm Training Group will consider whether the course, delivery arrangements and available support are suitable for the prospective student.
- Language, literacy and numeracy skills.

- Any support or reasonable-adjustment requirements.
- Ability to participate safely in practical CPR scenarios.
- Ability to work at floor level for adult CPR assessment.
- Ability to perform repeated chest compressions and ventilations.
- Any injury, condition or circumstance affecting practical participation should be discussed with PTG before the workshop.
Participants must perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. Participants must also perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface. These are mandatory assessment requirements of HLTAID009.
Reasonable adjustment may be available where appropriate. Reasonable adjustment cannot remove an essential competency requirement, alter mandatory practical assessment requirements, compromise assessment validity or create an unacceptable safety risk.
Students must provide a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) before nationally recognised certification can be issued, unless a lawful exemption applies.
HLTAID009 is offered over an enrolment period of up to three months through a blended combination of online learning, knowledge assessment and face-to-face practical training and assessment.
Actual workshop duration may vary according to cohort size, learner needs and the time required for each participant to complete all mandatory practical training and assessment activities.
Required online learning should be completed before attending the practical workshop unless an alternative arrangement has been approved by Paradigm Training Group. Online activities may include:
- Reading learner resources.
- Reviewing instructional material, presentations and videos.
- Completing knowledge and formative activities.
- Contact with trainers and assessors by phone, email or other approved communication methods where assistance is required.
Following completion of the required online component, participants attend a face-to-face practical workshop involving trainer demonstrations, guided CPR practice, AED operation, realistic emergency scenarios and practical competency assessment.
Workshop dates, commencement times, expected duration and delivery locations are provided during the enrolment and booking process.
Businesses and organisations may request customised group training for five or more participants. Training may be delivered at a Paradigm Training Group facility or at an approved client workplace where the venue provides an appropriate and safe environment for all required training and assessment activities.
Workplace scenarios may be contextualised to reflect the participants' environment or industry while maintaining all nationally prescribed requirements of HLTAID009.
To be assessed as competent in HLTAID009, students must satisfactorily complete all required knowledge and practical assessment activities and demonstrate the performance required by the nationally recognised unit.
- Managing an unconscious casualty who is breathing normally, including appropriate positioning to reduce the risk of airway compromise.
- Managing an unconscious, non-breathing adult.
- Performing at least two minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR, including five cycles of compressions and ventilations, on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
- Following the prompts of an AED trainer to deliver at least one simulated shock.
- Demonstrating rotation between rescuers with minimal interruption to chest compressions.
- Responding appropriately to regurgitation or vomiting during CPR.
- Handing the casualty over to emergency services and providing an accurate verbal report.
- Reviewing the emergency response.
- Performing at least two minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR, including five cycles of compressions and ventilations, on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
Students who do not initially demonstrate competency will receive feedback and advice about any further training, practice or evidence required. Further assessment opportunities are managed in accordance with Paradigm Training Group's assessment and reassessment policies.

No workplace placement is required for HLTAID009. Required practical performance may be assessed in appropriately simulated emergency scenarios.
Students who successfully demonstrate competency in all requirements of HLTAID009 will receive a nationally recognised:
A verified USI must be available before the Statement of Attainment can be issued, unless an applicable exemption exists.
Students assessed as Not Yet Competent will be advised of any further evidence, training or reassessment required.
A Statement of Attainment records successful completion of HLTAID009. The Queensland First aid in the workplace Code of Practice recommends that CPR refresher training be undertaken annually. Participants should also confirm any employer, industry, professional or regulatory currency requirements that apply to them.
HLTAID009 focuses specifically on cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Participants who require broader first aid skills should consider HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.

Credit transfer may be available where a student provides valid evidence of having already successfully completed the identical unit or an officially recognised equivalent unit.
Recognition of Prior Learning may be considered where a student can provide sufficient, authentic, current and valid evidence demonstrating all requirements of the unit.
Any recognition decision must satisfy the current requirements of HLTAID009, including applicable practical performance and assessment requirements.

Any additional charges applicable to an individual enrolment will be disclosed before the student is required to enrol or make payment.
Where training is arranged for a business or organisation, a written quotation will identify the agreed fees, delivery arrangements and any applicable additional charges before the booking is confirmed.
Refunds, cancellations, withdrawals and transfers are managed in accordance with the Paradigm Training Group Student Handbook , applicable fee and refund policies and the student's enrolment agreement.
