Individuals must also meet AMSA's current age\, English-language\, medical\, first aid\, evidence and operating requirements under Marine Order 505.\n\n\n\n\nNationally Recognised Training\n\nMARSS00048 Coxswains Grade 3 Skill Set\n\nDevelop the practical skills and maritime knowledge required to operate eligible domestic commercial vessels within the limits of a Coxswain Grade 3.\n\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n			Course Fee\n\n			$850.00\n			\n			\n			Practical Workshop\n\n			3 Days\n			\n			\n			Enrolment Period\n\n			12 Months\n			\n		\n	\n\n\n\nCourse Overview\n\nThe MARSS00048 Coxswains Grade 3 Skill Set provides nationally recognised training in small-vessel handling\, seamanship\, maritime regulations\, safe vessel operation and first aid. \n\nThis skill set forms part of the requirements for recognition by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) as a Coxswain Grade 3. \n\nSuccessful completion results in the issue of a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. \n\nImportant\nCompletion of the skill set does not\, by itself\, authorise a person to perform Coxswain Grade 3 duties. The individual must also meet the applicable requirements of Marine Order 505 (Certificates of competency — national law) 2022.\n\n\n\nCoxswain Grade 3 Outcome\n\nAMSA describes Coxswain Grade 3 as a domestic Certificate of Competency for operating in Australian waters. \n\nUnder Schedule 1 of Marine Order 505\, a Coxswain Grade 3 may command and operate the engines of a vessel less than 12 metres long\, subject to specified operating limitations. \n\n\n	\n		\n			\n			General Vessel Limits\n\n			\n				The vessel is less than 12 metres long.\n				No more than six persons are carried\, including the crew and master\, unless operating as an eligible tender.\n				Passenger operations are conducted during daylight hours only.\n				Inboard propulsion power is less than 100 kW.\n				Outboard propulsion power is less than 250 kW.\n			\n			\n			\n			General Operating Areas\n\n			\n				A marina or applicable mooring area.\n				Inland or smooth waters.\n				Waters within one nautical mile of shore.\n				Applicable aquaculture lease and transit waters.\n				Waters within 250 metres of a structure fixed to the shore.\n			\n			\n		\n	\n\n\nTender Operations\n\nA tender must be capable of communicating with\, and remain in line of sight of\, its parent vessel. It provides evidence of completing the MAR Maritime Training Package pathway recognised under Marine Order 505.\n\n\n\nAMSA Requirements and Application\n\nThe MARSS00048 Coxswains Grade 3 Skill Set supports the MAR Maritime Training Package pathway recognised by AMSA. \n\nIn addition to completing the required training\, a person must meet AMSA’s current age\, English-language\, medical-fitness\, first aid and evidence requirements before performing Coxswain Grade 3 duties. \n\nOperating without a physical AMSA certificate\nA person who meets the applicable AMSA requirements may operate as a Coxswain Grade 3 without an AMSA-issued physical certificate.
