It does not itself issue a Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency. Graduates must apply separately to the Australian Maritime College Office of Maritime Communications for recognition of the unit and issue of the LROCP.\n\n\nBefore enrolling: The marine radio certificate required for an AMSA Certificate of Competency depends on the certificate being sought. Confirm whether you require an LROCP\, SROCP or another accepted radio qualification.\n\n\nUnit Overview\n\n\nThis unit involves the skills and knowledge required to: \n\n\n	Transmit and receive information by marine radio\, including using marine very high frequency (VHF) and high frequency (HF) radio according to regulations.\n	Carry out user maintenance and fault-finding procedures on radio equipment and power supplies.\n	Operate emergency position indicating radio beacons (EPIRBs)\, search and rescue radar transponders (SARTs)\, automatic identification system search and rescue transmitters (AIS-SARTs)\, AIS man overboard (AIS-MOB) devices and digital selective calling MOB (DSC-MOB) devices.\n\n\nThis unit applies to people working in the maritime industry in the capacity of: \n\n\n	Master on commercial vessels <80 m in length within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ)\, or\n	Chief mate or deck watchkeeper on a vessel <80 m in length within the EEZ.\n\nMarine Order 505 requires that you hold either a Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP) or Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) depending on the certificate of competency you apply for. This unit\, MARC043 Transmit and Receive Information by Marine Radio\, is specifically required for the LROCP application. Please note\, you need to hold a radio certificate before applying for your certificate of competency. See the licensing section below for more information.\n\nUnit Delivery\n\n\nThis unit is offered over a three-month period through a blended delivery model of face-to-face and online training and assessment. The face-to-face component is delivered as a practical workshop (1 day). Prior to commencement of the face-to-face component of the unit\, online pre-learning and formative assessment activities must be completed. You will have online support from trainers and assessors throughout the duration of the unit.\n\nYou are welcome to attend more than one face-to-face workshop during the three-month program if you would like extra learning or if the trainer and assessor has identified that you need extra time in order to gain competence. Extra workshops incur no further costs and are included in your original unit fee/s.\n\nPlease note: The unit can be completed prior to the three-month period; however\, this is based on a student's current level of knowledge and experience. \n\n\nUnit Resources\n\n\nYou will need a computer or tablet with internet access for the online components of this program. All resources required for the practical workshop will be provided by PTG.  \n\n\nLicensing Overview\n\n\nLegislative and regulatory requirements are applicable to this unit. The Radiocommunications Act 1992 (the Radcomm Act)\, through the Radiocommunications License Conditions (Maritime Ship License) Determination 2015 requires that operators of VHF maritime ship stations are appropriately qualified to operate the stations. This means that operators are required to hold a relevant Australian maritime radio operator's certificate of proficiency or an equivalent overseas qualification.\n\nThe Australian Maritime College (AMC) acts as the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) delegate in providing marine radio certificate services under the Radcomm Act\, including the issue of Long Range Radio Operator’s Certificates of Proficiency (LROCPs). Operators who have attained a Statement of Attainment from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for this unit can apply to the AMC for the issue of a LROCP without the need to sit a further examination. This unit is one of the requirements to obtain Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) certification as defined in the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D and Marine Order 505.\n\nTherefore\, once you have achieved a satisfactory result for this unit of competency\, you will receive a statement of attainment. You should consult with PTG for advice on this process.\n\n06.2 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)\n\nRPL recognises your existing experience gained through life or work for which you may not have obtained a formal qualification. The purpose of the AMPA is to assess an individual’s competency against the performance requirements of a specific AMSA license outcome.\n\nThe AMPA is delivered by Paradigm Training Group (PTG) in accordance with AMSA regulations to allow students to successfully complete their AMSA final assessment and gain their low complexity interim certificate of competency (Interim license) prior to submitting the required licencing evidence to AMSA for processing.\n\n \n09.1 How do you Complete the AMPA?\nIf you are a new Paradigm learner enrolling into a Maritime qualification previous to 1st July 2018 and have selected the option to complete an AMPA\, you will have the opportunity to do so as part of your five day maritime training and assessment workshop. The course is delivered in accordance with current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and focuses on providing participants with the ability to act quickly and effectively when every second counts. \n\nThe course is delivered through a flexible blended learning model\, allowing participants to complete the theory component online at their own pace before attending a practical face-to-face workshop. Depending on individual requirements and group sizes\, the practical component is typically delivered over a half-day session. \n\nOur practical workshops are interactive\, engaging and highly hands-on\, providing participants with the opportunity to develop and refine their CPR skills through realistic emergency scenarios\, guided practice and practical assessment activities.
