DESCRIPTION:Coxswain Grade 3 Near Coastal \nCOXG3\n\nThe Coxswain Grade 3 Near Coastal training\, incorporating the units MARI003\, MARK007\, and MARN008\, is designed to provide learners with the essential knowledge and skills required for safe and compliant operation of small commercial vessels. This training focuses on applying basic seamanship skills\, maintaining vessel safety\, and operating vessels up to 12 metres within the operational limits permitted under Coxswain Grade 3 Near Coastal. \n\nIt is suited to individuals seeking to enter the maritime industry in entry-level roles\, or those requiring foundational maritime skills to support operations in marinas\, mooring areas\, sheltered waters\, or as a tender operator in line-of-sight of a parent vessel. \nCourse Overview\n\n\nThe Coxswain Grade 3 Near Coastal will allow an individual to:\n\n1. Command and operate the engines of a vessel <12 m long;\n(a) Carrying no more than 6 persons including crew and master unless the vessel is a tender\, refer to (d)\n(b) If the vessel is carrying passengers — only in daylight hours; and\n(c) With propulsion power\, for an inboard engine <100 kW; or for an outboard engine — <250 kW\n(d) If the vessel is a tender that has a parent vessel \n\n\n	within 3 n mile of the parent vessel for a person who satisfies eligibility requirement (c) or (e) under Coxswain Grade 3 NC in Schedule 3; and\n	within 1 n mile of the parent vessel for a person not mentioned in subparagraph (i); and\n	in line of sight of the parent vessel; and\n\n(e) If the vessel is not mentioned in paragraph (d) — in any of the following:\n\n\n	a marina\n	a mooring area in sight and communication of a marina\n	inland waters\n	smooth waters\n	waters within 1 n mile of shore\n	waters: of an aquaculture lease approved by a State or Territory; or approved by a State or Territory for daily transit to and from an aquaculture lease; or within 1 n mile of a State or Territory approved aquaculture lease; or waters within 250 m of a structure fixed to the shore.\n\n2. Command and operate the engines of a vessel < 12 m long:\n(a) That is used only for towing people.\n(b) With propulsion power for an inboard or outboard engine of < 500 kW.\n(c) In waters approved as a water ski area by a State or Territory authority.\n(d) In daylight hours only.\n\nCourse Delivery\n\n\nThis statement of attainment is offered over a 12-month period through a blended delivery model of face-to-face and online training and assessment. The face-to-face component is delivered over a two-day workshop\, including classroom training\, onboard training\, firefighting simulations\, and safety at sea drills. Prior to commencement of the face-to-face component of the course\, online pre-learning and formative assessment activities must be completed. You will have online support from trainers and assessors throughout the duration of the course.\n\nPlease note: You are welcome to attend more than one face-to-face workshop during the 12-month program if you would like extra learning or if the trainer and assessor has identified that you need extra time in order to gain competence. Extra workshops incur no further costs and are included in your original course fee/s.\n\nFace-to-Face Workshop\nThe face-to-face component of this course is delivered over a two-day workshop. During the two days you will complete training with formative and summative assessment activities in the following environments: \n\n\n	Classroom\n	On board Paradigm Training Group vessels ranging from 5 to 18 metres\n\n\nOnline Activities\nThese consist of: \n\n\n	Multiple choice and other formative assessment questions\n	Reading learning materials\n	Reviewing slideshows and videos\n	Video\, email\, text and phone conversations with Trainers and Assessors\n\n\n\nCourse Resources\n\n\nYou will need a computer or tablet with internet access for the online components of this program.\n\nOther resources that you will require for workshop days include:  \n\n\n	Vessel handling: Students MUST wear appropriate clothing and enclosed footwear at all times while on training vessels.\n\n\nThese resources are not included in the course fee and must be purchased or provided separately. \n\n\nQualification\n\n\nTo successfully complete this training and receive your Statement of Attainment\, you must demonstrate competence in all knowledge and practical skill requirements for the units included in the Coxswain Grade 3 pathway. \n\nIf you are unable to demonstrate competence during your learning activities or during the two-day face-to-face workshop\, you will be invited to attend additional workshops at no extra cost. These sessions will provide further support\, practice\, and additional opportunities for you to demonstrate the required competencies. \n\nPlease note that a Statement of Attainment issued by PTG forms part of the eligibility requirements for the Coxswain Grade 3 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency.\nThe Coxswain Grade 3 license itself is issued only by AMSA once you submit your application and meet all AMSA requirements. \n\n\nQualification Pathways\n\n\nPathways you may take from this qualification include:\n\n• MAR10424 Certificate I in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 2 Near Coastal)\n• MAR20324 Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal) \n\n\nCredit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning\n\n\n\n	Credit Transfer: If you have completed any single or multiple units in Coxswain Grade 3 and can provide evidence in the form of a certificate and transcript issued by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or educational body\, you may be eligible for credit transfer. You should consult with PTG for advice on this process.\n	Recognition of Prior Learning: RPL recognises your existing experience gained through life or work for which you may not have obtained a formal qualification. If you are able to supply valid\, sufficient\, current and authentic evidence of having the skills and knowledge required for any or all of the required units for this qualification\, you may be eligible for RPL and should consult with PTG for advice on this process.\n\n\n\nUnits of Competency\n\nThe qualification includes 3 units of competency covering various maritime operations and safety procedures. These units include:\n\n	MARI003 Comply with regulations to ensure safe operation of a vessel up to 12 metres\n	MARK007 Handle a vessel up to 12 metres\n	MARN008 Apply seamanship skills aboard a vessel up to 12 metres\n\n\n\nLicensing Overview\n\n\nThe Coxswain Grade 3 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency is issued by AMSA. Requirements include minimum age\, eligibility through an approved pathway\, training\, practical assessment\, eyesight test\, and medical fitness.\n\nIn addition to your successful completion of the required MAR maritime training units with PTG\, to successfully gain your Coxswain Grade 3 License you will also need to: \n\n\n	Be at least 16 years of age at the time the certificate is issued.\n	Meet one of AMSA’s approved eligibility pathways\, which may include:\n\n\n- Completion of the units of competency MARI003\, MARK007 and MARN008; OR\n\n- Holding a State or Territory recreational boat license plus at least one day of qualifying sea service and completion of AMSA Form 1882; OR\n\n- Completion of another approved course listed in Schedule 3 of Marine Order 505.\n\n\n	Successfully complete all required training and assessment\, including the practical assessment conducted by your PTG Trainer and Assessor.\n	Complete the AMSA eyesight test\, AMSA Form 542.\n	Complete a Certificate of Medical Fitness for a domestic marine qualification (AMSA Form 1850)\, if applicable to your chosen eligibility pathway.\n	Hold a current first aid certificate (HLTAID011 Provide First Aid) if you intend to carry passengers.\n\n\nPeople seeking licensing certification should refer to Marine Order 505 for full eligibility\, sea service\, medical\, and operational requirements. \n\n\nFees Overview\n\n\nCourse Fee: $850.00\n$850 is payable upon enrolment and prior to accessing the student online platform. \nFor information on PTG payment plans or possible funding options\, please contact Paradigm Training Group. \nThere are currently no openings available for this course.
