The skills developed support tasks such as vessel operation\, navigation\, safety management\, seamanship\, environmental protection responsibilities\, emergency response\, and watchkeeping on a wide range of commercial vessel types.\n\nWhen combined with the additional AMSA requirements\, the qualification contributes to eligibility for the following licensing outcomes: \n\n\n Master of a commercial vessel <24 m in Near Coastal waters\n Chief mate on a vessel <45 m in Near Coastal waters\n Deck watchkeeper on a vessel <100 m and <3000 GT\n Chief mate on a vessel <100 m and <3000 GT in in-shore waters\n General Purpose Hand (GPH) duties\n Master (Inland Waters) NC\n\n\n\nCourse Delivery\n\n\nThis qualification is offered over a 12-month period through a blended delivery model of face-to-face and online training and assessment. The face-to-face component is delivered over a seven-day workshop\, including classroom training\, onboard training\, firefighting simulations\, and safety at sea drills. Prior to commencement of the face-to-face component of the course\, online pre-learning and formative assessment activities must be completed. You will have online support from trainers and assessors throughout the duration of the course.\n\nPlease note: You are welcome to attend more than one face-to-face workshop during the 12-month program if you would like extra learning or if the trainer and assessor has identified that you need extra time in order to gain competence. Extra workshops incur no further costs and are included in your original course fee/s.\n\nFace-to-Face Workshop\nThe face-to-face component of this course is delivered over a seven-day workshop. During the seven days you will complete training with formative and summative assessment activities in the following environments: \n\n\n Classroom\n On board vessels ranging from 5 to 18 metres\n Firefighting simulations\n Safety at sea drills in sheltered waters\n Engineering workshop activities\n\n\nOnline Activities\nThese consist of: \n\n\n Multiple choice and other formative assessment questions\n Reading learning materials\n Reviewing slideshows and videos\n Video\, email\, text and phone conversations with Trainers and Assessors\n\n\n\nCourse Resources\n\n\nYou will need a computer or tablet with internet access for the online components of this program.\n\nOther resources that you will require for workshop days include:  \n\n\n Fire training: Long pants\, long sleeved shirt and closed shoes MUST be worn. Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) will be provided by PTG - Eye protection\, gloves et cetera.\n Safety at sea: Swimwear and towel are required. You may consider bringing a spare change of clothes. Sunscreen MUST be worn for "Safety at Sea" units.\n Vessel handling: Students MUST wear appropriate clothing and enclosed footwear at all times while on training vessels.\n\n\nThese resources are not included in the course fee and must be purchased or provided separately. \n\n\nQualification\n\n\nIn order to successfully complete this qualification and gain your Certificate III in Maritime Operations - Master up to 24 Metres Near Coastal\, you must demonstrate competency in all unit knowledge and skill requirements. If you are unable to demonstrate competency in any of your unit activities or during the seven-day face-to-face workshop\, you will be invited to attend further workshops where you will be provided with support and further opportunities\, for practice and to demonstrate the required competencies. \n\n\nQualification Pathways\n\n\nPathways you may take from this qualification include: \n\n\n MAR30824 - Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal)\n MAR40324 - Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 Metres Near Coastal)\n\n\n\nCredit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning\n\n\n\n Credit Transfer: If you have completed any single or multiple units in this qualification and can provide evidence in the form of a certificate and transcript issued by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or educational body\, you may be eligible for credit transfer. You should consult with PTG for advice on this process.\n Recognition of Prior Learning: RPL recognises your existing experience gained through life or work for which you may not have obtained a formal qualification. In addition to your successful completion of the MAR30924 Certificate III in Maritime Operations with PTG\, to successfully gain your Master up to 24 Metres License you will also need to: \n1. Obtain qualifying sea service –\nWith an approved AMSA Task Book\n\n\n at least 120 days qualifying sea service on a commercial vessel ≥7.5 m long working in a deck capacity.\n\nOR\nWith an approved AMSA Task Book\n\n\n at least 360 days qualifying sea service on a vessel ≥7.5 m long (of which at least half must be on a commercial vessel)\, working in a deck capacity or working both in a deck capacity and an engineering capacity.\n\n2. Complete an AMSA Mandated Practical Assessment (AMPA).\n3. Obtain a Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) issued by ACMA (or higher qualification).\n4. Complete Certificate of Competency Application\, AMSA form 426.\n5. Complete a Certificate of Medical Fitness for a Marine Qualification\, AMSA document 1850.\nPeople seeking licensing certification should read the Marine Order 505 for licensing and sea service requirements. \n\n\nAMSA Mandated Practical Assessment (AMPA)\n\n\n\nThe purpose of the AMPA is to assess an individual competency against the performance requirements of a specific AMSA license outcome. The AMPA is conducted by Paradigm Training Group (PTG) in accordance with AMSA regulations to allow students to successfully complete their AMSA final assessment and gain their low complexity interim certificate of competency (Interim license) prior to submitting the required licensing evidence to AMSA for processing.\n\nHow do you Complete the AMPA?\nIf you are a new Paradigm learner enrolling into a maritime qualification and have selected the option to complete an AMPA\, you will have the opportunity to do so as part of your seven-day maritime training and assessment workshop. Please note that the AMPA is valid for 12 months.
