This unit\, MARC043 Transmit and Receive Information by Marine Radio\, is specifically required for the LROCP application. Please note\, you need to hold a radio certificate before applying for your certificate of competency. See the licensing section below for more information.\n\nUnit Delivery\n\n\nThis unit is offered over a three-month period through a blended delivery model of face-to-face and online training and assessment. The face-to-face component is delivered as a practical workshop (1 day). Prior to commencement of the face-to-face component of the unit\, online pre-learning and formative assessment activities must be completed. You will have online support from trainers and assessors throughout the duration of the unit.\n\nYou are welcome to attend more than one face-to-face workshop during the three-month program if you would like extra learning or if the trainer and assessor has identified that you need extra time in order to gain competence. Extra workshops incur no further costs and are included in your original unit fee/s.\n\nPlease note: The unit can be completed prior to the three-month period; however\, this is based on a student's current level of knowledge and experience. \n\n\nUnit Resources\n\n\nYou will need a computer or tablet with internet access for the online components of this program. All resources required for the practical workshop will be provided by PTG.  \n\n\nLicensing Overview\n\n\nLegislative and regulatory requirements are applicable to this unit. The Radiocommunications Act 1992 (the Radcomm Act)\, through the Radiocommunications License Conditions (Maritime Ship License) Determination 2015 requires that operators of VHF maritime ship stations are appropriately qualified to operate the stations. This means that operators are required to hold a relevant Australian maritime radio operator's certificate of proficiency or an equivalent overseas qualification.\n\nThe Australian Maritime College (AMC) acts as the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) delegate in providing marine radio certificate services under the Radcomm Act\, including the issue of Long Range Radio Operator’s Certificates of Proficiency (LROCPs). Operators who have attained a Statement of Attainment from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for this unit can apply to the AMC for the issue of a LROCP without the need to sit a further examination. This unit is one of the requirements to obtain Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) certification as defined in the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D and Marine Order 505.\n\nTherefore\, once you have achieved a satisfactory result for this unit of competency\, you will receive a statement of attainment. You will then need to submit an application for the recognition of a Unit of Competency (UOC) with The Office of Maritime Communications at the Australian Maritime College to obtain a Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) license. \n\nFor more information:\nMarine radio certificates (amsa.gov.au)\nHow to Obtain a Certificate of Proficiency - Australian Maritime College (amc.edu.au) \n\n\nFees Overview\n\nUnit Fee: $220.00. \n$220.00 is due upon enrolment and prior to accessing the student online platform. \nFor information on PTG payment plans\, please contact Paradigm Training Group.  \n\nThere are currently no openings available for this course.

SUMMARY:MARC059 Transmit and Receive Information by Marine VHF Radio witin Australian Territorial Waters (FFS23)
DESCRIPTION:Transmit and Receive Information by Marine VHF Radio within Australian Territorial Waters Fee-for-Service\nMARC059\n\nThe MARC059 unit\, synonymous with the Australian Waters Qualification (AWQ)\, is an indispensable study unit for boaters navigating within Australian Territorial Waters. Recognising the critical role marine VHF radio plays in ensuring maritime safety\, this unit is tailored to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge for effective communication at sea. You'll delve into the correct usage of channels\, understand distress and safety procedures\, learn how to respond to emergencies\, and grasp the significance of Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and its integration with GPS for enhanced rescue operations. Additionally\, the unit covers the operation of Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) in distress situations\, ensuring you're prepared to safeguard lives in critical moments.\n \nOffered by registered training organisations (RTOs) and endorsed by the Department of Education\, Skills and Employment\, MARC059 adheres to the standards set by the Australian Industry Standards. Completion of this unit not only fulfills the requirements of the Radiocommunications Act 1992 and the Radiocommunications (Maritime Ship Station – 27 MHz and VHF) Class Licence 2001 but also signifies your capability to operate VHF marine radios within 12 nautical miles of the coast confidently and legally. Whether you're pursuing maritime proficiency or ensuring compliance with national communication regulations\, the AWQ is your gateway to mastering marine radio operations\, enhancing both your safety and that of others on the water.\nUnit Overview\n\n\nThis unit covers everything you need to know about using marine VHF radios and EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons) on a vessel. You'll get hands-on with how to send and receive messages clearly and effectively\, making sure you can communicate in both everyday and emergency situations according to strict regulations.\n \nBeing skilled in VHF radio communication and EPIRB use is crucial for safety at sea. This training is not just about following rules; it's about keeping you and everyone else safe on the water. Plus\, it's a key step in meeting the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) certification requirements for operating commercial vessels under the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D.\n \nIf you're planning to helm a boat within 12 nautical miles of the Australian coast\, this unit is essential. It ensures you're up to speed with the Radiocommunications (Maritime Ship Station – 27 MHz and VHF) Class License 2001 requirements\, making you a responsible and legally compliant mariner. \n\n\nUnit Delivery\n\n\nThis unit is offered over a three-month period through a blended delivery model of face-to-face and online training and assessment.
