Marine Engine Driver Grade 2

The Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Workshop is for students who are currently completing the MAR30818 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal).

To request and hold your spot in this workshop, you will need to have completed all of your online learnings and assessments.

What You Will Need To Bring:

Workshop Safety:

Prior to attending this workshop, you will be required to complete and provide a copy of the PTG workshop safety agreement to your trainer and assessor. Please note, this may be emailed or presented at your workshop. (Click here)

  • Dick Gandy Ships Manual Handbook
  • Water
  • Lunch
  • Writing tools (book, pens, pencils)
  • Comfortable clothes

Engineer Workshop:
  • Long Sleeve Shirt
  • Long Pants
  • Safety Glasses
  • Enclosed Shoes

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Enclosed Shoes

For Fire Drills:
  • Long Sleeve Shirt
  • Long Pants
  • Safety Glasses
  • Enclosed Shoes

For Water Drills:
  • Clothes to get wet in, including swimsuit (similar to work gear)
  • Dry clothes to change into
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat

Session Overview:

Day 1 - Saturday
Units - Introduction, work effectively with other and elements of shipboard safety (BSBWOR203, MARF027, MARF028, MARF029, MARF030)

Day 2 - Sunday
Units - Complete engine room tasks, operate deck machinery and environmental practices (MARC033, MARC036, MARJ006 & BSBWOR203)

Day 3 - Monday
Units -  Maintain Hull out of water, Manage fuel systems and environmental  work practices (MARC034, MARC040 MARJ006 & BSBWOR203)

Day 4 - Tuesday
Units - Maintain, monitor and operate internal combustion and auxiliary systems, and follow environmental work practices (MARB031, MARC039, MARC041 & MARJ006)

Day 5 - Wednesday
Units - Maintain, monitor and operate internal combustion and auxiliary systems (MARB031, MARC039, MARC041 & MARJ006)

Day 6 - Thursday
Units - Operate and maintain extra low and low voltage electrical systems and equipment, undertake basic maintenance and operate electrical systems, and follow environmental work practices  (MARC035, MARB032, MARC042 & MARJ006)

Day 7 - Friday
Units - Review and final assessments

First Aid - Saturday
Unit - Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) - If you don't currently hold a statement of attainment for HLTAID003 you may join the workshop and complete this as part of your MED 2 workshop. Please request to join this session through your student portal calendar. 

Please note, as the training and assessment takes place in different scenarios including fire fighting, water survival and vessel handling, session days, times and locations may change due to weather or other risk factors. If sessions are changed, you will be notified before or during the workshop.
