PTG and Sirocco Marine have partnered to create a world first, individually tailored training package for new BRIG vessel owners. Whether you are at a novice level or you are an ocean survivor, we’ll boost your knowledge, capability and confidence in a fun, safe and rewarding educational experience.

Diamond Class Training

Paradigm Training Group (PTG) and Sirocco Marine Queensland (BRIG) have collaborated to create an exclusive BRIG Training Program (non-accredited) available to new BRIG inflatable power vessel owners.

Our program is designed to help to improve your skills, knowledge and confidence to ensure you get the most out of your new luxurious vessel. Our courses are tailored to the individual client and their abilities, with course levels ranging from “Novice Marine” to “Ocean Survivor”.

We provide training solutions for clients aged 16 (legal age to hold a Queensland marine licence) and above at any experience level – whether you wish to learn, practise or further develop your maritime skills and knowledge. You will be educated by Australia’s most experienced trainers and gain one-on-one practical experience whilst learning within a safe and comfortable environment.

Five levels of certification

The BRIG Training Program is a non-accredited maritime program containing 5 levels of certification: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Master Mariner and Ocean Survivor. You will have the opportunity to select which level suits your skill level and your needs as a mariner.

What to expect ...

You will be trained by the most qualified and experienced maritime trainers in Australia. During your training you will have access to the luxurious BRIG vessels and gain comprehensive practical experience. For Intermediate Mariner to Ocean Survivor level courses you will indulge in a delectable luncheon hosted by the PTG family.

BRIG Training Program Levels

Novice Mariner

Clients undertaking the BRIG Novice Mariner Course will have the opportunity to choose between two half day courses:

1. Accredited recreational boat licence (QLD only)
2. Novice program (must hold boat licence)

1. Accredited Recreational Boat Licence

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to apply for a Queensland Recreational Boat Licence (RMDL).

  • Collision regulations
  • Vessel pre-departure and shutdown checks
  • Vessel knowledge and terminology
  • Vessel handling practice
  • Basic berthing and unberthing (port and starboard)
  • Figure eight and reverse figure eight
  • Overboard drills
  • Anchoring
  • Weather monitoring
  • Seamanship skills (ropes, knots and deck hand skills)

2. Novice Program

Clients will complete a half day intensive novice program that focuses on vessel handling and docking in sheltered/partially smooth waters.

  • Vessel pre-departure and shutdown checks
  • Vessel handling
  • Basic berthing and unberthing (port and starboard)
  • Seamanship skills (ropes, knots and deck hand skills)

Intermediate Mariner

Clients undertaking the Intermediate Mariner course will have the opportunity to complete a one (1) day training program in sheltered/ partially smooth waters.

This course also includes morning tea, lunch, coffee and/or tea.

  • Collision regulations
  • Vessel pre-departure and shutdown checks
  • Vessel knowledge and terminology
  • Vessel handling practice (intermediate)
  • Turning short around in limited space
  • Maneuvering to a mooring buoy
  • Basic berthing (port and starboard)
  • Basic berthing in a pen
  • Trailering, launching and retrieving a vessel
  • Overboard drills with Williamson turn recovery
  • Anchoring
  • Beaching and refloating a vessel
  • Weather monitoring
  • Seamanship skills (ropes, knots and deck hand skills)
  • Basic maintenance
  • Radio

Advanced Mariner

Clients undertaking the Advanced Mariner course will have the opportunity to complete a two (2) day training program in sheltered/ partially smooth waters.

This course also includes morning tea, lunch, coffee and/or tea.

  • Undertaking briefings
  • Collision regulations
  • Vessel pre-departure and shutdown checks
  • Vessel knowledge and terminology
  • Vessel handling practice (Advanced)
  • Turning short around in limited space
  • Maneuvering to a mooring buoy
  • Berthing (port and starboard)
  • Berthing in a pen (port and starboard)
  • Reverse in a pen (port and starboard)
  • Towing and being towed
  • Handling a partially disabled vessel using sea anchor or drogue
  • Handle vessel in bad or simulated bad weather
  • Maneuvering a vessel astern in S configuration
  • Trailering, launching and retrieving a vessel
  • Overboard drills with Williamson turn recovery
  • Anchoring
  • Beaching and refloating a vessel
  • Weather monitoring
  • Seamanship skills (ropes, knots and deck hand skills)

  • Chart navigation

Master Mariner

Clients undertaking the Advanced Mariner course will have the opportunity to complete a three (3) day training program in sheltered/ partially smooth/ open waters.
This course also includes morning tea, lunch, coffee and/or tea.

  • Vessel handling practice (Master)
  • Turning short around in limited space

Ocean Survivor

Clients undertaking the Ocean Survivor course will have the opportunity to complete a one (1) day training program in simulated emergency environments that will show individuals how to survive in an emergency situation while at sea operating a vessel.

This course also includes morning tea, lunch, coffee and/or tea.

  • Firefighting techniques including fighting live fires using extinguishers, blankets, buckets and hoses

  • Life raft usage and maneuvering
  • Vessel abandonment drills

Our Location

Paradigm Training Group is now conveniently positioned in two locations at Australia’s Greatest Boatyard, The Boat Works in Coomera, QLD.

Find the administration team, Business/ Leadership/ Work Health and Safety and First Aid trainers in our office and training rooms in Building J01A of the South Yard, a short walk from Espresso Twenty5 and Boatworks Car Museum.

Our maritime training rooms are also located in the South Yard, opposite The Boat Works administration office and slipway at A-05 on the waterside of Hanger H.
